The Spillway project was a journey marred by peril, challenging the very limits of our craft and tenacity. Envision a mammoth 50-acre location, dominated by a dam wall sloping at a precarious 45°. The breathtaking spectacle of 750 tons of water cascading down every minute, threatening to sweep away all in its path and send them plunging 90 meters into a deep canyon below. Each day on set was a dance with danger, as affirmed by Jim Dowdall, the seasoned James Bond stunt coordinator, who likened our feats to the audacious stunts of Bond films.

Logistical nightmares only added to the challenge. The primary location, Káhahnjúkar Dam, was a remote hideaway, a daunting nine hours from Reykjavik. Every shoot day ended late, only for the cycle to start afresh pre-dawn. A rescheduled shoot brought its own host of issues, from a shortage of crew members due to Iceland's tight-knit population to finding accommodations amidst peak tourism season. Yet, the indomitable spirit of the crew shone through; whether it meant bunking in trailers or private homes, the team pressed on without a hint of complaint.

But amid these adversities, the true essence of the project shone through—unyielding dedication to craft. Under Lino Russell's visionary direction, backed by 2nd unit director Rory Mckeller and DoP Stefan von Borbely, every shot was meticulously planned to ensure cinematic perfection. There was no margin for error. With limited chances for multiple takes and a sheer volume of footage required for the final 7-minute spectacle, the stakes were astronomical. Jess Hawkins, our hero driver, showcased unparalleled prowess, becoming the linchpin in many of our shots. It was an exercise in trust and collaboration.

Reflecting upon the challenges, from unpredictable glacial melts chasing our timeline to the tremendous pressure of delivering creative excellence, it's almost unfathomable that we achieved what we set out to. In the aftermath, the sentiment echoed by the creative director, Lee, was humbling - he wasn't sure if any other production company could have pulled off such a feat. And while the entire experience teetered on the edge of madness, would we embrace such a wild challenge again? In a heartbeat. For it's in these chaotic realms that true creativity thrives.
